Solara Energy's Thin, Flexible Solar Panels Honored With
Innovation Award By National Marine Manufacturers Association
LAS VEGAS, NV -- (INTERNET WIRE)
-- 06/07/2002 -- Solara Energy, Inc. of Gilroy, California has won
an Innovation Award for a series of new technology solar panels
designed for use in marine and recreational vehicle applications.
The award was presented in Las Vegas at the National Marine Manufacturers
Association Second Annual Marine Aftermarket Accessories Trade Show.
The Innovation Award is the recreational boating industry's
highest honor for product excellence. Award winners are chosen as
the result of a vote of members of Boating Writers International,
a non-profit organization of reporters, broadcasters, photographers
and others in the communications profession associated with the
boating industry. Members include active marine journalists in the
United States, Canada and Europe. The Innovation Awards program
awards those products that best meet the following criteria: Innovative
distinction from other products currently being manufactured; benefit
to the marine industry and/or consumer; practicality; and, cost-effectiveness.
The Solara solar
modules utilize a pioneering design that integrates the photovoltaic
cells into a polycarbonate sheet that is bonded to thin stainless
steel backing. This results in an advanced solar module that is
extremely thin, lightweight and flexible. Because the panel is sealed,
it offers unparalleled durability. It can be mounted to any surface
and is so rugged, it can even be walked on.
"Solara's solar panel was recognized
for its durability", said Michael Verdon, president of Boating
Writers International. "This wafer-thin panel could open a
new market for solar panels, particularly in smaller powerboats
where solar panels have not been practical or cost-effective before
now."
"We are honored that the NMMA
has given one of the industry's top awards to Solara's solar modules,"
said Mark Weiss, president of Solara Energy, Inc. "This award
is recognition of how unique our product is, and highlights the
public's desire for practical alternative energy solutions."
Solara's solar modules are available
in a range of sizes from 10 watts to 56 watts, and are affordably
priced beginning at $200.00.
