Frequently Asked Questions

Why would I want a renewable energy system?
Renewable energy systems let you save money on your power bill, ensure a reliable supply of high-quality power during blackouts and system outages, and help protect the environment.

Is a renewable energy system affordable?
Absolutely. An exact estimate can't be pr
ovided here because the final cost depends on power usage patterns and requirements, the size of the home or the facility, and the kinds of resources available in the area. In addition, government rebates and tax credits can significantly decrease your total costs.

Does renewable energy really benefit the environment?
Absolutely. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, for every 10,000 kW of electricity that is generated by renewable resources, the following environmental savings occur:

Fossil fuel not burned
Pollution prevented
Carbon dioxide (causes global warming) Sulfur dioxide (causes acid rain) Nitrogen oxides (causes acid rain and smog)
18 barrels of crude oil 10 tons 54 kg 19 kg
44.7 tons of coal 12 tons 100 kg 40 kg

What can I run on renewable energy?
The electricity generated by a Solara system is the same as the electricity you get from the power company, so you can use it to power lights, normal household appliances, and small- to medium-sized water pumps. However, energy-efficient appliances are recommended, as are gas heating and gas-powered clothes dryers.

What system is best for my needs?
Every customer's needs are different, depending on the amount of sun, wind, and falling water available at your location and the amount of power required. Some Solara's professional design team will recommend a customized system tailored for your exact requirements.

What happens when my energy system needs maintenance?
Solara can set up your renewable energy system so that you can draw power from the public utility grid as a backup during system failure or routine maintenance.

What can I do with my excess power?
If you generate more power than you can use, the power company is required by federal law to purchase the excess energy from you. You can actually watch your electric meter run backwards!

What can I use as a backup system?
A number of technologies can provide a reliable supply of power for emergency or backup purposes, such as batteries and generators as well as a backup connection to the utility grid.

How long do solar modules last?
Most solar modules are warrantied for 20 to 25 years, but have a life expectancy of 60 to 80 years or more.

Will Solara help me with the permitting process?
Solara provides all project management including procurement of building permits and arranging for all required inspections.

Will Solara handle maintenance?
Yes. Solara can meet all maintenance requirements for all components of our systems. In addition, we support manufacturer's warranties as well as provide our own extended service agreements.
